What data is stored

StudyLens stores the following data exclusively on your device using Chrome's built-in storage APIs:

• Your word lists (names, words, colors, styles)
• Your global URL settings (whitelist / blacklist)
• Your language preference (Spanish or English)
• Your theme preference (light / dark)
• Your sidebar width preference

This data is stored in chrome.storage.sync (synchronized across your Chrome devices when you're signed into Chrome) or chrome.storage.local (this device only) as a fallback when data exceeds the sync size limit. Both are managed entirely by your Chrome browser — StudyLens never has direct access to transmit them anywhere.

What data is NOT collected

• No personal identifiers (name, email, IP address, user ID)
• No browsing history or visited URLs
• No content of the web pages you visit
• No analytics or usage statistics
• No crash reports sent to a server

Permissions and why they're needed

• Access to all websites (<all_urls>) — Required so StudyLens can highlight your word lists on any page you visit. The extension only reads page text to find matches; it never reads, stores, or transmits page content.
• Storage — To save your word lists and preferences locally / via Chrome sync.
• Active tab / Scripting — To inject the highlighter script into the current page.
• Tabs — To update the badge counter on the extension icon per tab.
• Context menus — To add the "Add to StudyLens" right-click option.
• Clipboard read/write — To copy shared list codes and emails to the clipboard when you click the copy button.

Third-party services

StudyLens does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or data processing services.

The extension loads Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com) when you select a Google Font as the highlight style for a list. This request is made from your browser to Google's servers and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. No word list data or personal information is included in these requests.

Data sharing

StudyLens does not share any data with any third party — because no data ever leaves your device or Chrome's own sync infrastructure.

Children's privacy

StudyLens does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The extension does not collect personal information from any user, regardless of age.

Changes to this policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and bump the extension version. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
